Each floor has a staff member present responsible for the pastoral care and supervision of campers. Both international and American students will be integrated in dorm rooms so there is constant integration between cultures.
If you have any special requirements or would like to request to share with a friend, we will try to accommodate you, just let us know in advance.
Camp Darlington offers cafeteria-style meals three times a day, with a variety of freshly prepared dishes for students at breakfast, lunch and dinner at one of the dining halls on campus. There is always a vegetarian option available and fresh fruit and salad bar at every meal.
The dining area is a buffet style cafeteria with two main serving lines, a drinks and salad bar, and round tables to encourage conversation and use of the English language.

This 2-week intensive soccer course includes approximately 8 training sessions per week delivered by UEFA qualifies and experienced coaches with a background in youth and player development.
The coaches have professional experience at both academy and development level and are focused on ensuring a love for the game and delivery of achievable learning outcomes to help players remain in the game and improve.
Players will receive technical training to help their basic skills of ball manipulation, including dribbling and passing. Coaches will also cover the decision making required and problem solving challenges where players are opposed and competing.
During the course, players will be tested physically as they adapt to the movement and agility needed to play soccer and finally there will be plenty of integration and social learning as team based challenges and scenarios come into play.
After additional technical training and development, games and tournaments come towards the end of the programme.
Students will need to bring enough soccer training kit to wear throughout the 2-week camp, including shin guards and football boots. We also recommend bring indoor training shoes that are suitable on either AstroTurf or indoor flooring, in case of bad weather.
Levels: A1 – B2 on CEFR Pathway Table
Following a comprehensive language assessment at the beginning of the course, our American teachers will determine each student’s English level and place everyone into the appropriate class to your ability. This camp offers Preliminary (A1), Elementary (A2), Intermediate (B1) and Advanced (B2) courses in English.
Typically, English classroom learning time in Asheville is approximately 15 hours per week and our class sizes are small with a mix of nationalities. Whilst international teens are in English class, our American campers will be taking language lessons too – so that everyone is learning to not only communicate in a range of languages but also an appreciation for other cultures and traditions.
We understand that improving language skills comes from engaging students with interesting debates, topics and teaching methods. Our English classes are very interactive covering both general and local topics, such as education, youth culture, holidays, politics, history, and themes of ‘high school’ with its own characteristics like: school spirit, course offerings and extra-curricular activities.
At the end of the 2-week course, our teachers will determine the appropriate Anglia Examinations exam level based on each student’s performance during the course. We will then receive a certificate from Anglia Examinations, which confirms your English level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference.
For students achieving a pass grade or higher for B1 and B2, they will receive an Ofqual approved certificate through Anglia Examinations partnership with AIM Awards.
Our multi-activity programme at Camp Darlington, allows our campers to experience a true summer camp experience, taking part in lots of outdoor challenging activities whilst using and improving English speaking and listening skills.

Darlington camp is located in beautiful historic Rome, GA. We will take a trip to explore the great city at the historic downtown with its rustic buildings set along the great Etowah river for a half day trip.
Students can also look forward to day trip to Atlanta, where there is lots to discover including the Stadium, the Aquarium and The World of Coca-Cola. Other excursions could also include the opportunity to visit Six Flags Over Georgia theme park and the Alabama National Park.
Care & Supervision
Our Camp Leaders are responsible for the pastoral care of all those in our care and ensure that everyone is sleeping well, eating well, joining in, making friends and having a great time.
During free time, our teenagers are able to explore the campus with friends, whilst being supervised by their house parents.
Our camps are available to children from all over the world, however the camp at Darlington School has only recently begun welcoming international teenagers exclusively through Xplore so there may be a low number of other international students at camp with the majority of campers being keen American teenagers.
Integration and immersion is central to how we operate as an organisation, and by encouraging lots of social interaction between different cultures and creating a diverse international community at camp, it can really develop every child’s self-confidence in communicating with others. Our students will be together in the morning for English lessons and in the afternoon will participate in all activities with American students. Meal times and dorm rooms are also integrated with a mix of international and American teens and the whole camp will experience off-campus excursions together too.
